It is quite normal to lose
about 50 to 100 scalp hairs every day. However,
sometimes people may lose more hair, which can
be found in hairbrushes, clothing and in the
drains of sinks and tubs. With the loss of hair,
the hair becomes thinner and the hairline takes
a different margin.
One of the main reasons for hair loss is a
hormonal problem. Sometimes under active or over
active thyroid glands lead to hair loss, this
can be cured by treatment of the thyroid
disorder. Imbalance of androgens and estrogens
also lead to hair loss. Its clinical treatment
stops hair loss. This is also the reason for
hair loss in pregnant women.
Some drugs tend to aggravate hair loss;
especially sulphur drugs. Stopping of these
medications will normally stop the hair fall.
Other medications that may induce hair loss are
anticoagulants, gout medicines, too much of
Vitamin A, birth control pills, chemotherapy
medicine and antidepressants
weight loss.
Many a time, undergoing a major operation or the
suffering of a prolong illness can lead to a
problem of hair loss. But this form of hair loss
is due to the stress of the illness or operation
and is usually temporary. You need to
care your hair
else it will become unmanageable. Sometimes some fungal
infections cause hair loss that can be treated
with antifungal medicines. Even diseases like
lupus and diabetes may lead to hair loss. So as
it is seen that hair loss is sometimes the early
sign of a disease, its cause has to be detected.
This can be done by, consulting a specialist for
early detection and treatment.
